Crusing Spots In Texas

SOMETHING ABOUT MUSIC ...

Tarabust

Assembly + Ute Volker

Wednesday October 21

Matucana 100, SCL

just last Wednesday the concert was organized by the Project Tarab

ust, which had as its keynote address to the German accordionist Ute Volker, accompanied by an eclectic "orchestra of 25 musicians. Eclectic, because apart from a camera section (violins, double bass, cello, percussion), also had all kinds of guitars, bass, sax, flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, drums, percussion and electronics ready.

The presentation was divided into 5 parts, plus an extra piece, a kind of bis scheduled.

concert is special, beyond the large number of musicians on stage, is that the resulting sound would be born of directed improvisation, that is, each piece was "composed in vivo" or "composed extemporaneously, using the rotational direction of 5 musicians

Orchid

this, that through his hands and body to indicate "orchestra" the fabric of syntactic parameters that shape the sound they wanted. That is, they said rings, height, dynamics, articulations, etc, resulting in a demanding exercise for both director and musicians, and concentration and quiet from the public to enjoy the process and outcome.

Parts walked around the diverse and rich sounds of contemporary music: some noise, silence, rubbing, sounds ready, highly variable and contrasting dynamics, and by the end of the evening, some humor, audience participation and rhythm by Ute Volker and Rodrigo Rios.

Most encouraging of the concert was the way they were bringing together the sounds, going from a hesitant, and much needed push when giving precise coordinates, to a time when the music seemed to move by itself, from one side to another stage.

Ute Volker is accordionist and has participated for several years on various projects of improvisation, where the more traditional language merges with the jazz and improvisation.

The presentation brought together the Ensemble Tarabust very clearly the sounds of their complex and "hard" instrument, expanding their opportunities through dissonance, joints and variations in intensity, accurate and powerful, without fall into any kind of virtuosity or solismo gimmicky.
